FOREVERLY, the screenplay adaptation of , She Called Him Raymond, recently won the Gold Remi Award at the 52nd Annual Worldfest Houston Film Festival, one of the world’s oldest and largest film and script competitions. Kathleen Haney, Program and Artistic Director for the festival noted in a letter to O’Conor, “… your Remi Award provides a very special significance this year, as more than 4,400 category entries were competing from 74 countries.”
The screenplay title was inspired by Jeff Brisbin, a composer, lyricist and performer who wrote a ballad bearing the same title. O’Conor noted, “The screenplay has garnered some attention at other film festivals and screenwriting competitions, but this award is quite a surprise and honor. My participation in Stowe Story Labs, a program that brings emerging screenwriters, filmmakers and creative producers from around the world together with seasoned industry professionals, as well as feedback I’ve gotten from some gifted writers in the film industry, have been instrumental in crafting the script.”
In spite of its early successes, O’Conor knows the road to production is a challenge. “The process of navigating from screenplay development to the screen is long, moves at a glacial pace and has many obstacles. But, the way I figure it, someone’s story is going to be portrayed on the screen, why shouldn’t it be Helen and Raymond’s story?”
