It was a pleasureĀ for me to serve as the Honorary Chairman of this year’s Veterans Ball. TheĀ proceeds of the event go to the Veterans and Community Housing Coalition, an agency that assists Veterans with issues ranging from career placement and housing, to counseling and other services, as they adjust to post-military life.
I had the honor of introducing Veterans from World War II to the present, who were recognized for their devotion to service and country. Most of our honorees are still active in programs and organizations that support the military and their fellow Veterans.
Among the lessons I’ve learned from these and other courageous women and men who have worn the uniforms of our Armed Services, is that heroes are not those from afar who wear capes. They come from neighborhoods like yours and mine all over America and wear dog tags and boots.
