A bit more than three years ago, I came home from the office and told my wife, Mary, that I wanted to resign as president and CEO of the bank to research and write this story full time. Mary inquired:
“Are you having a midlife crisis?”
“I don’t think so.”
“How much will you earn as an author?”
“It depends on whether or not the book is published and how it sells.”
“So, basically nothing for a while.”
“That’s right, but we’ll be okay. Anyone still alive who may have a first hand account of what happened to Helen and Raymond are in their 80’s or 90’s. I’m afraid if I wait, they and the photographs, records and stories they have will be gone. I can’t take that chance.”
“Well, if that’s what you have your heart set on doing, then go for it.”
